This Saturday, Laois and Wicklow meet in the Intermediate Relegation play-off in Abbotstown, with throw-in at 2pm.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. A win for Laois ensures Intermediate status for 2027 and brings a challenging campaign to a positive conclusion.
Few could have imagined that, less than a year after competing in the 2025 TG4 All-Ireland Final in Croke Park, Laois would find themselves in this position. But sport is demanding, and the growth of Ladies Gaelic Football has seen the development of an increasingly competitive championship each year, with incredibly talented teams. After a season of fine margins and narrow defeats, the team now face one final battle.
While the results haven’t always gone Laois’ way, one thing has never changed – the commitment, dedication and pride shown by this group of players. They have given countless hours to representing their county, while continuing to promote and develop Laois Ladies football. It would be easy to judge this season by the league table or championship results alone. And although many can feel bitterly disappointed, this team have shown something important to future generations: resilience.
This squad have continued to inspire future generations by wearing the Laois jersey with pride and never giving up when times get challenging. Every player has been a credit to their clubs, families and their county.
Now after months of hard work, it all comes down to this game.
This Saturday, these players will stand up when it matters the most.
They have never stopped believing in one another.
Now they need the county to believe in them too.
